Age 22, Days 18 & 19

This is the cervix of a 22 year old woman who has never given birth.  She has a 31 day cycle and no history of STDs.

About one year ago, the woman saw her gynecologist about frequent but odorless discharge and discomfort.  Her gynecologist diagnosed her with cervical erosion (also called ectropian cervix) and advised her to stop using contraceptive pills for 3-4 months, since the hormones in the birth control pills can make the condition worse.  Erosion did not worsen since coming off the pill and the cervical discharge reduced; no surgery was deemed necessary.

  1. My doc diagnosed me with the same. It started after my 2nd child. I now have a copper IUD– could this be the problem like the birth control pills were as well? Thanks. Trying to find a solution and end to the discharge.

  2. The cervical erosion can be caused by hormonal birth control methods. If you are having problems with erosion, it may be wise to have your hormones checked for excessive estrogen, which from what I understand, can cause such an issue.
